Building a Revolutionary Sikh Mobile Application

One fine day, I found myself overthinking a very commonly observed problem—how difficult it is to keep track of which page of a scripture is currently being read. Given the vast nature of Sikh scriptures, this issue is frequently encountered, yet no seamless solution existed.

As a designer, I decided to leverage my skills to craft a prototype that could address this challenge.

The Ideation Process

To ensure my concept was valid, I shared the prototype with friends and family, gathering their feedback. Their positive responses reinforced the necessity of such a solution. However, rather than limiting the application to solving just one problem, I saw an opportunity to create a much larger impact. This led me to consider developing a full-fledged Sikh application.

Market Research & Validation

Before diving headfirst into development, I conducted an in-depth study of existing applications, current market offerings, and the broader digital landscape for Sikh religious practices. My research focused on three key aspects:

The Challenge

Through my research, I identified two major gaps in the Sikh digital ecosystem:

Lack of IT Infrastructure for Gurudwaras – Yes, many ERPs fail. So, we had to build a solution that is highly bespoke and solves hard problems through the use of cutting-edge technology and design. 

No Cutting-Edge Digital Solution for Sikh Spiritual Practices – Devotees lack a centralized, intuitive, and technologically advanced platform that enables them to focus on their spiritual journey without any worry about technology or its use.

Product Opportunity – Understanding whether such an application had a real need among users.

Global Market Opportunity – Evaluating how scalable and globally relevant the solution could be.

Revenue Potential – Analyzing possible monetization models without compromising the spiritual essence of the platform.

The Solution

The mobile application is designed to address these two critical pain points.

Solution Features:

For Gurudwaras: The Web Portal will function as an ERP and CRM solution, allowing them to efficiently manage their operations, engage with the community, and facilitate donations.

For Sikh Devotees: The app will offer features such as real-time scripture tracking, guided recitations, and interactive community engagement to help individuals enhance their spiritual practice.
